Vertex Service Partners is a company focused on acquiring and growing residential home improvement services companies in the United States, with a focus on residential roofing & other exterior services. Vertex is backed by Alpine Investors, a top-decile private equity fund with a long history of successful investments in similar industries. Vertex will be an investment out of Alpine’s 9th fund, which will have ~$4.5 billion of committed capital. This is an opportunity to be on the ground floor of a company with the explicit mandate to grow to be a multi-billion-dollar company within the next five years, with the goal to grow the right way – through a relentless focus on employee and customer experience.

Mission of the role:

Develop and maintain PriceBooks (the topline and gross margin engine of our companies) that drive accurate COGS, pricing and a best-in-class sales process, to maximize value capture for fast-growing roofing brands within Vertex, contributing to our mission to build best-in-class home improvement brands.

Where you’ll make an impact:

  • Support the Operations Excellence, Technology, & Finance teams to implement pricing strategies and optimize profitability while maintaining competitive positioning and polished sales tools.
  • Develop and maintain estimation tools to calculate material costs and labor expenses for roofing and other home services packages.
  • Maintain accurate records of pricing adjustments, discounts, and promotions within PriceBooks. Further, implement processes for regular price audits and updates utilizing national supplier and distributor data.
  • Apply your analytical skills to manage pristine, proprietary data sources and strengthen Vertex’s ability to make data driven decisions.

Key Outcomes:

  • Directly maximize gross margin by supporting the strategy for $100M+ (and growing) of roofing materials spend and by becoming an expert in building and maintaining partner pricing via ownership of the “PriceBook”:
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive PriceBooks for partner companies that produces accurate gross margin, accounting & robust, insightful P&L and trend data.
  • Develop a templatized process that enables production and maintenance of 15-20 PriceBooks / year.
  • Define & document PriceBook standards and best practices; conduct analysis to identify the “best-in-class” PriceBooks and redesign suboptimal PriceBooks to new standards.
  • Support Ops Excellence leadership on procurement analysis and identify high ROI opportunities for Vertex.
  • Implement best practices for CRM management, including data hygiene, customization, and integration with other business systems to ensure business KPIs are reportable; perform data quality assessments and audits and present gap analyses.
  • Develop dynamic estimate templates to streamline sales processes and empower roofing start-ups to effectively showcase product offerings and rapidly grow its salesforce while maintaining consistent pricing and gross margin:
  • Act as a thought partner, thoughtfully combining Vertex models with expertise from partner companies to develop estimation tools for sales and production teams across the country.
  • Build polished, engaging, consumer-facing sales tools.
  • In some cases, serve as an onsite Vertex representative as partner companies go-live on Vertex’s standardized CRM.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline operations and drive growth:
  • Analyze complex data sets from key industry stakeholders to build out Vertex’s data repository.
  • Take on new challenges as they arise, demonstrating critical thinking and growth mindset in a dynamic startup environment.
  • Manage project plans in Monday.com; keep the team apprised of efforts across partners and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Contribute to team culture and effort by supporting other key initiatives as needed.

Who you are:

  • You have worked as a data analyst or in consulting, private equity or investment banking analyst for 2+ years
  • You could be described as an “Excel super-user” with advanced modelling capabilities and the critical thinking skills to match
  • You are proficient in SQL and confident in your querying and database management ability
  • You are familiar with basic accounting concepts such as “GL codes” and proficient in a P&L structure
  • You are adept at combining data analysis ability with basic accounting acumen to thoughtfully analyze pricing strategies
  • You have an aesthetic eye towards building consumer-facing, professional work product
  • You are comfortable with project-based work and have exceptional time management, organization, and prioritization skills
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit and desire to build a function from the ground up
  • You are capable of and eager to drive accountability without direct authority
  • You are excited by having a direct impact on top-line and bottom-line growth
