Multi-site Dermatology Group Seeks Controller

Optima Dermatology is recruiting a Financial Controller to join our Practice Support Center, based in Portsmouth, NH.

Position Details:

Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with US GAAP.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee general ledger and accounting functions and systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements while maintaining accurate financial accounts
  • Provide comprehensive, timely and accurate financial reporting to the organization
  • Guide financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to current economic landscape
  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines
  • Manage and sustain systems that effectively control company cash, including cash flow forecasting and strong cash control policy oversite
  • Maximize payroll efficiency through innovative process development
  • Help develop and support short- and long-term operational strategies

The Details

  • Management Responsibilities:
    • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
    • Manage and perform operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
    • Manage and oversee the accounting department personnel
  • Accounting Operations:
    • Manage and complete month end close, including posting or approval of all journal entries
    • Manage day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including AP, Cash Management, Banking & Treasury, and Payroll
    • Maintain the chart of accounts
    • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
    • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
    • Administer and manage company payroll, supporting the development of processes and controls
    • Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report
  • Cash Management:
    • Develop and foster a culture of strong corporate controls and governance around cash management; developing and implementing policies where necessary
    • Maintain the company’s cash flow forecast
  • Compliance:
    • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
    • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants, when applicable
    • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
    • Manage administration and renewal of all business insurance policies

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional people manager and team leader: 1-3 years of demonstrated success in leading, mentoring, and growing teams.
  • Experience in similar roles: 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or operational finance.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field, or equivalent business experience.
  • Driven and self-motivated: Ability to work independently, possess a level of initiative and enthusiasm to help drive results.
  • Effective communicator (written and verbal) and cross collaborator: Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with team members and stakeholders across the organization.
  • Knowledge of healthcare or adjacent industry: Familiarity with the healthcare industry.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills. Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple high-priority tasks and handle a fast-paced work environment.
  • Technically savvy: Experience with Great Plains, Microsoft Office, specifically SharePoint, Word, and Excel, highly proficient in spreadsheet, database, and practice management applications.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations
