Multi-site Dermatology Group Seeks Remittance & Cash Posting Specialist

Optima Dermatology is recruiting an experienced full-time Remittance & Cash Posting Specialist to join our growing Dermatology and Medical Aesthetics group. Hybrid, remote, and on site opportunities available based out of our Portsmouth, NH office.

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the AR and Posting Manager the Billing Remittance & Cash posting specialist is responsible for all work associated with posting remittance and payment information including but not limited to insurance and self-pay accounts within the AR for their assigned URLs within the Optima RCM department.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes and applies payments, denials, and informational data from third party and patient payers in all media types- (manually and electronically)
  • Interprets explanation of benefits and insurance/patient correspondence
  • Conducts data entry and remittance posting reconciliation activities
  • Releases electronic files and resolves error reports in the practice management system
  • Responsible for online payments in all systems, daily Lock box review, remittance review, posting payments and denials for assigned carriers or URL’s
  • Completes timely carrier recoupment requests
  • Maintain set standards, metrics and KPIs and ensure individual and departmental goals are met
  • Analysis of postings when necessary
  • Attaches files to batch and/or patient account
  • Proactively identify issues or trends and provide suggestions for resolution
  • Identify lockbox issues and actively work RCM team to escalate for resolution including effective written and oral communication of issues
  • The payment/remittance poster is challenged to create the most efficient and effective posting processes, daily payment reconciliation
  • Close all open batches daily, weekly, monthly
  • Collaborates with the AR team to ensure that aging receivables paid or adjudicated but not posted are remediated promptly and root cause identified and corrected
  • Informs management, as appropriate, regarding backlogs and time available for additional tasks
  • Utilize resources such as provider portal(s), websites, provider relations teams and telephone to research, escalate and resolve any issues with missing or delayed remittances or cash posting
  • Participate in revenue cycle projects as needed
  • Maintains working day to day knowledge of the practice management system
  • Accurately documents patient accounts
  • Apprises management of concerns as appropriate
  • Works to resolve any credits created from the posting process
  • Research and validate posted payments and adjustments to ensure claims processed and posted as expected and make corrections as needed to resolve balances and leave accounts in a zero-balance state, including working overpaid and credit accounts and applying refunds as needed
  • Work with supervisor(s) to streamline billing procedures based on denial and payment delay trends
  • All other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one (1) year of medical billing background and a consistent record of entering demographics and insurances
  • Customer facing experience at least 1-3 years
  • Capable of adapting to multiple applications of software
  • Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve business unit objectives
  • Knowledge of reimbursement processes, billing, and accounts receivable
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
  • Knowledge of payer billing guidelines and policies
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • As necessary, negotiates a work improvement plan with management to raise work quality and quantity to standards
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal skills, professional etiquette and courtesy when working with both internal and external customers
