What We Need

We are seeking a talented and driven Director of Business Finance to join our team and serve as a crucial strategic partner to our market area president, overseeing multiple portfolio businesses in a specific market area. This position will work intimately with the market area president and partner company general managers, acting as their primary financial advisor and strategic thought partner. The ideal candidate will excel at building strong relationships with business leaders, translating financial insights into strategic actions, and driving performance through collaborative partnership.

In this role, you will lead a team of business finance managers, providing guidance and support as they work with individual portfolio companies. You will be responsible for the overall financial health and performance of the market area, working hand-in-hand with the market area president to drive growth, profitability, and operational efficiency across multiple businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

- Strategic Business Partnering:

o Serve as the primary financial advisor and strategic partner to the market area president

o Actively participate in strategy development and decision-making processes for the market area

o Provide financial perspective and insights to support business growth and profitability across the portfolio

- P&L and Balance Sheet Responsibility:

o Assume overall responsibility for the P&L and balance sheet of the total market area

o Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial statements across portfolio companies

o Optimize working capital and capital structure at both the market area and individual company level

- Performance Management:

o Collaborate closely with the market area president and general managers to set financial goals, drive performance, and achieve business objectives

o Oversee the development and implementation of key performance indicators (KPIs) across the market area

o Work with management teams to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans

- Financial Planning and Analysis:

o Lead the forecasting and budgeting processes for the market area and its partner companies

o Conduct high-level variance analysis and provide actionable insights on financial performance

o Develop financial models to support strategic decision-making and business planning

o Identify and assess financial risks and opportunities within the market area, collaborate with the leadership team to capitalize on growth opportunities and develop mitigation strategies for identified risks

- Business Reviews:

o Oversee and participate in monthly business reviews with partner company leadership teams

o Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports and analysis for the market area to Guardian Executive Leadership teams.

o Facilitate strategic discussions on financial performance, risks, and opportunities

- Team Leadership:

o Lead and develop a team of business finance managers

o Ensure consistent financial practices and reporting across partner companies

o Mentor and coach team members to enhance their business partnering capabilitie

What You'll Bring (Experience):

- 10+ years of experience in finance roles, with at least 5 years in a business partnering or FP&A capacity

- Proven track record of successfully partnering with senior executives to drive strategic decisions and financial results

- Experience managing and developing a team of finance professionals

- Strong experience in financial planning, analysis, and performance management across multiple business units

- Experience working in a market area or regional financial leadership role

- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or CPA is a plus

- Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and data analysis

- Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements

- Experience with ERP systems and financial planning software

- Familiarity with private equity or multi-unit business environments is preferred

Guardian is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For this position, the base salary pay range is $170,000 to $190,000 with a target bonus of 20%. Actual compensation will depend upon an individual's skills, experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors. The salary range is subject to change and may be modified at any time.

This role is a hybrid role – requiring 2-3 days/week in our downtown Denver office.
