Position Summary

Ascend is seeking a Director, Marketing & New Business (“Director”) to lead the development of Marketing, Sales, and Business Development excellence across its growing network of acquired firms (“partner firms”). The Director will devise full-funnel marketing strategies that blend art and science, then implement those strategies through a team of excellent vendors & in-house resources to help our partner firms significantly grow revenue and achieve stretch new business goals.

Key Relationships

The Director will report to Ascend’s VP, Strategic Growth and directly manage a team of Marketing, Business Development, and Sales SMEs, comprising primarily of third partner vendors. The Director will also partner cross-functionally with partner firm CEOs, Chief Growth Officers, partners, operations leaders, and the Ascend Partner Services team.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy Development

  • Develop high ROI go-to-market (“GTM”) and lead generation strategies and implementation playbooks that are scalable and repeatable across our growing network of partner firms, while accounting for each firm’s unique value proposition and ideal client profile (“ICP”)
  • Develop and leverage a deep understanding of the Accounting industry and each partner firm; understand their ideal client profiles and client segments; create effective messaging that attracts the firm’s ICP and positions each firm as the service provider of choice in their region
  • Serve as a thought leader to our partner firms, crafting clearly defined GTM and channel strategies that lead to a robust pipeline of net new business

People

  • Develop a People strategy and resource plan to implement the Ascend Demand Generation Playbook, focusing on efficacy (i.e., new business capture), customer delight (i.e., our partner firms), and ROI
  • Execute a vendor selection process that results in a team of high caliber firms energized to support Ascend’s mission and deliver excellent service & value to our Partner Firms
  • Build, manage, and retain A players across a mix of internal hires and external vendors that deliver against ambitious lead generation KPIs and new business goals

Playbook Execution

  • Refine and execute the Ascend Demand Generation Playbook with a hyper-focus on marketing activities that generate significant client lead volume, conversion, and ROI
  • Own full-funnel marketing initiatives encompassing branding, messaging, digital, social, direct mail, thought leadership, and PR; own the outcomes of “home grown” initiatives as well as 3P deliverables
  • Implement marketing initiatives that reflect the voice of the customer (i.e. our partner firms), amplifying bright spots and unique value propositions
  • Support due diligence of pipeline partner firms to accelerate impact of the Ascend Demand Generation Playbook

Sales First Principles

  • Provide thoughtful support to our front-line sales team (i.e., partners, senior managers, etc.) – for example, high impact collateral, thought partnership around events or groups to join, etc.
  • Create opportunities for sales leaders to come together & learn from one another; document & share bright spots & best practices across the Ascend community
  • Support the implementation of Salesforce with focus on firm adoption & solving firm pain points, along with creating visibility into pipeline KPIs and deepening client relationships via cross-sell

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated track record of devising and implementing full-funnel B2B marketing initiatives, with a minimum of 5 years of experience; Accounting or other professional services industry experience is highly desired, but not required
  • Strategic, analytical thinker who leverages data to make decisions; prefers to use KPIs and dashboards to influence decision making through all stages of the marketing funnel
  • Track record of managing 3P vendors with great results (i.e., beautiful, effective creative content)
  • Strong sense of urgency and desire to win; the ideal candidate is a both a vision-caster and effective people manager who is motivated by a self-intrinsic drive for excellence
  • Outstanding written and oral communicator and teacher
  • Superior sense of intellectual curiosity paired with the ability to “get smart” fast
