Job Description – Indirect Tax Analyst
Mission of the Role:
The areas of indirect tax accounting and tax compliance for Apex Service Partners and its entities include sales and use tax, payroll tax, personal property, unclaimed property and other tax matters. The Indirect Tax Analyst will set up new tax accounts and ensuring indirect tax collection, payment and filing obligations are accurately, timely and efficiently met. This position will also assist in all areas of the indirect tax function as needed including to responding to tax notices received.
Responsibilities:
- Set up new tax accounts (SUI, SIT, S&U, etc.) for new acquisitions and current entities entering into new jurisdictions, coordinating cross functionally with Employee Services and Partnership Development teams
- Maintain accuracy of indirect tax accounts based on changes to legal entity structures (mergers and name changes) in coordination with the Legal Department
- Monitor the status of payroll tax filings within ADP through the generation and review of monthly reports
- Prepare or review monthly, quarterly and annual tax filings such as sales and use, property and unclaimed property
- Work closely with regional accounting and business departments to ensure information for tax compliance is obtained accurately and efficiently
- Manage invoices and notices associated with annual returns and renewals, ensuring prompt receipt and payment
- Research, track and resolve any issues or discrepancies arising from indirect tax notices, providing resolution and/or guidance as necessary
- Research indirect tax requirements for new locations or acquisitions, coordinating with relevant business partners to ensure compliance
- Participate in the implementation of sales and use tax software
- Maintain complete and audit-ready indirect tax files, ensuring all supporting documents are accurate
- Assist with ensuring internal controls are effective to manage financial risk
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors to ensure successful engagement; provide all requested schedules, information and support as needed
- Contribute to team culture and effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Qualifications & Experience:
- 2+ years of prior indirect tax or accounting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA preferred
- Possess or desire to gain knowledge of indirect tax rules and concepts with the ability to apply it to the various compliance processes
- Excellent research and problem-solving skills, ability to analyze, compare, evaluate and reconcile tax data and learn from it
- Experience coordinating efforts with a disparate internal accounting team
- Experience with Sage Intacct and tax software implementations a plus
- Strong ability to communicate accounting and financial information into common language
- Interest in joining a well-capitalized entrepreneurial team
