Overview

Employee Services Manager

The Employee Services Manager will functionally administer a highly scalable, decentralized, best-in-class Employee Services program. The Employee Services Manager will find the balance between our fierce focus on decentralization and the efficiencies of scale for processes and systems.

The Employee Services Manager will manage and iterate the day-to-day processes and procedures for the Employee Services function. They must have superior organization and communication skills while maintaining incredible attention to detail in a rapidly growing environment. This individual will develop and lead a team and will both manage and perform both strategic and tactical work in the areas of Onboarding, Benefits, Total Rewards, Training and Development, Compliance, Risk and Safety, Employee Relations, Performance Management, Communication, and Acquisitions.


The
Employee Services Manager will build brand awareness as an “Employer of Choice” in California.

Role Summary

The company is rapidly growing and needs an experienced and skilled Human Resources Leader with specific experience in California, who can bring proven, scalable processes, people analytics knowledge, and a passion for creating enduring company cultures. This Manager will contribute directly to the mechanisms to grow the company, including employee services (HR), compliance, retention, risk and safety, and benefits and rewards. In this hands-on environment, the ideal people leader will be driven by the long-lasting impact of their work.

Supervisory Requirements

  • Regularly recruits, hires, onboards, trains, and manages site level and regional HR and administrative professionals.
  • Pairs with other regional resources to co-own management of adjacent departments and staff.

Key Job Responsibilities

Reports directly to the Regional Director of Employee Services, working closely with both regional leadership, site level administration and leadership, and Apex Partner Services national teams, the Employee Services Manager will play a key leadership role in the California/Hawaii region.

Areas of impact may include:

  • HR Process & Administration
  • Provide a Best-in-Class Onboarding experience to all incoming employees.
  • Oversee a team of Human Resource and administrative specialists to support the region’s rapid growth.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with site level leadership, to execute and manage Employee Services programs and projects.
  • Achieve 100% employee data accuracy in all systems, providing assurance to all key stakeholders that KPIs and reporting are accurate and consistent throughout all organizational systems.
  • Support the Risk & Safety program at the regional level, to ensure a highly compliant and successful program.
  • Partner with Apex Corporate Development and Apex HR Operations to execute highly successful M&As.
  • Ensure all employees receive all training and education required in the areas of Compliance, Employee Relations, and Risk & Safety.
  • Facilitate prescriptive training and development training programs, to meet the needs of the business leaders at each site.

  • Talent Management & Engagement
  • Assist in building a culture of performance accountability.
  • Contribute to and help manage industry leading engagement and management development training.
  • Oversee culture building activities and initiatives at each site, within the region’s portfolio.

  • Payroll Administration
  • Oversee payroll and commissions calculations, for weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly distribution.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve payroll issues and concerns, for workforce of 1000+ employees.
  • Ensure CA and HI pay structure and administration compliance.

  • Benefits and LOA Administration
  • Be the subject matter expert for Benefits and Leave of Absence Programs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve employee level issues with benefits.
  • Advise and instruct Employee Services team members on the best practices around LOAs, RTW, WC claims managements, and ADA workplace accommodations.
  • Ensure 100% program compliance for LOA, WC, ADA, Healthcare benefits.

Candidate Requirements

A successful candidate will have the following criteria & competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, OR a lesser degree with additional relevant commiserate experience
  • 5 – 10+ years of prior HR experience required in a leadership role
  • HR Certification is strongly preferred
  • Highly motivated, comfortable working autonomously
  • Ability to effectively communicate HR processes into simple solutions for non-HR employees
  • Strong experience in leading / driving processes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail and teamwork
  • Able to operate effectively even when information may be incomplete or limited
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Champion change initiatives that drive financial success, culture value, and employee retention and satisfaction.
  • Strong desire to grow business and HR acumen

Preferred Candidate Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or Human Resources.
  • SPHR, PHRCA, or SHRM CA.
  • 3-5 multi-state compliance experience.
  • 3-5 years’ experience managing payroll processes.
  • 2+ years’ experience in an M&A heavy role, with focus on change management and scaling back office process.
  • 3+ years' experience working ADP Workforce Now.

Location

The Regional Employee Services Manager will be based in Southern California, with flexibility to work from Ontario, Anaheim, or L.A. onsite locations. The ESM will be expected to pair with local and regional employee services team members and be onsite, at one of the region’s 8 South California locations, at least 3 days per week.


Compensation

$100K-$110K with annual bonus opportunity BOE
